Do you still remember the absolute SHIVER of excitement you felt when you woke up on Christmas Eve morning knowing that the NEXT morning would be the most magical time of the year? The day would drag on and on and on....night would NEVER come, it seemed, and then you turned on the news to see if they were posting "Santa sightings".
And then it would be time to sleep....or attempt to sleep. I had a clock I could see from my bed and for years would think it said 6:15 and hop out of bed. Nope, it was 3:30. I would sneak down to look and then run back upstairs to wait for my dad to whistle for me to get up. One grandmother would spend the night with us, the other grandparents would drive over and the festivities would begin.
My dad's mom could sew like nobody else and I have to say that maybe my favorite gift she ever made was a psychedlic/paisley patterned fleece (red/orange/fuscia/yellow) pajama jumpsuit thing. I KNOW...it sounds tacky as all get out. I completed the ensemble with red fuzzy slippers. It was so "tres chic'" when I was in the 7th or 8th grade. So were opaque tights in those same loud colors.
Guess what....THEY'RE BACK!!! The psychedlic/large paisley patterns, the opaque tights, the "mod" cut dresses (those A-line things with bell sleeves). I know I'm too old to wear any of it but I would LOVE to pretend I was back "in the day" just once.
New music has been spinning at our house....Michael Buble's "Let it Snow" album is just wonderful, even if it is only six songs long. My dear Jonathan surprised me with that, the Harry Connick Christmas album and one by Ella Fitzgerald. He knows how much I LOVE to have the Christmas music going all day long....and he got to use his early Christmas present of a new CD player to fill the house with music for hours.
Wrapping didn't happen last night....off to do it this morning.
